The images in the Geographic Image Collection represent slides that have been donated to DePaul University Library by various individuals from the DePaul Community, many of whom were members of the DePaul Geographic Society. These travelers recorded their expeditions to countries around the globe from the late 1940's to the present.
Images in the collection represent a wide variety of topics in geographic, ethnographic and cultural imagery including: agriculture; anthropology and indigenous peoples; arts and architecture; commerce and industry; communication; economics; education; entertainment; environment; flora and fauna; health; land forms; parks and recreation; religious customs; sociology; and transportation. A sample of the collection includes images of bathers in the Ganges River at Varanasi, India; a pharmacy in a commune hospital in Nanning, China; ancient ruins in Ephesus, Turkey; summer hogans in Arizona; seal skinning practices in Kotzebue, Alaska; the top of Mount Vesuvius, Italy; and Buckingham Fountain in Chicago.
