Building Chronology |
Built in 1907, the Lyceum was a two-floor building which accommodated classrooms and social rooms for the meetings of various university and fraternal organizations. Many of its rooms were furnished by the Mandel Brothers, a large department store located in the Loop. Lyceum also held the College Grill, an eating establishment meant to serve patrons of the College Theater which stood next door. From 1910 to 1911, the DePaul High School for Girls was located there. In 1912, the DePaul School of Music moved in and remained until 1930. In 1918 it served the Students' Army Training Corps. In the 1930s the Liberal Arts library and President's Offices moved in and the Lyceum began to be known as the Library and Administration building. The building was razed in 1987. The Ray Meyer Fitness Center now stands in that location. DePaul President: Rev. Peter V. Byrne, C.M. |
