O'Brien, auxiliary archbishop of Tryouts Held for Reading Hour Dr. Albert T. Martin, chairman of the speech department, will conduct tryouts for this year's Christmas Reading Hour on Friday, November 3, at 3:00 p.m. in the Women's Lounge of the Liberal Arts Building. 1,000 Will Attend Set Attendance Record More than 1,000 persons will gather Monday night (Oct. 30) in the grand ballroom of the Conrad Hilton hotel for DePaul University's second anuual Scholarship Dinner. The $100 a plate, black tie affair will begin with a reception in the Williford room at 6 p. m. Principal speaker will be Robert B. Considine, newspaperman, author, and radio and television commentator. Toastmaster will be Patrick H. Hoy, president, Material Service division, General Dynamics Corp. All proceeds from the banquet go to the University's student scholarship fund. Each year DePaul expends approximately $125,000 in scholarships and tuition grants. No restrictions of faith, nationality or race are placed on such aid. ^tVmixa Chicago Most Rev. Cletus F. O'Donnell, auxiliary bishop of Chicago and Mrs. Frank J. Lewis, honorary chairman, DePaul University Woman's Board. Also: Rt. Rev. Msgr. William E. McManus, archdiocesan schools superintendent Dr. Benjamin C. Willis, Chicago public schools superintendent Martin H. Kennelly, former Chicago mayor Very Rev. Comerford J. O'Malley, C.M., DePaul president and Stuart List, publisher, Chicago's American. Forty DePaul coeds in white formal gowns and 20 army ROTC cadets in full dress uniform will provide a court of honor for dignitaries and guests as they enter the ballroom. Entertainment will be furnished by Lou Breese and his orchestra, and by the DePaul University choir, directed by Dean 1 C. Becker of the school of music. Lewis center last week as guests of the Very Rev. Comerford J. O'Malley, C.M., DePaul president.For the benefit of photographers, all brought their judicial robes. Present at the luncheon were James A. Geroulis, municipal court, Chicago Harold G. Ward, superior court, Cook County Joseph P. Burke, appellate court Frank H. Considine, principal speaker for the University's annual Scholarship Dinner Monday night in the grand ballroom of the Conrad Hilton hotel. More than 1,000 guests at the $100-a-plate affair will hear one of the world's most famous and respected reporters. Considine began his newspaper career as a cub reporter with the Washington Post in 1930. As a newsman he has covered such subjects as eyewitness battlefield reports in Europe, China-Burma-India and Korea flying into the eye of a hurricane top-secret military tests and championship sports events Little Rock and KhrushI chev the death of Pope Pius XII and the crowning of Pope John XXIII—just to name a few. Besides his "On the Line" column and special stories for Hearst Headline Service which are also distributed by United Press International, 'Considine contributes to The American Weekly and other national publications.Chamber Music Series Begins Next Tuesday The first in a series of chamber music concerts sponsored by DePaul University's school of music will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 8:15 p.m. in the Center theater. The all-vocal program, conducted by William Ferris, will include: "Exsultate Justi," "Salve Regina" and "O Sacrum Convivium," by Viadana "Anima Mea Liquae" by Schutz "Mirabile Mysterium" and "Ascendit Deus" by Gallus "Vere Lanquores" and "O Magnum Mysterium" by Vittoria and excerpts from the "Magnificat" by J. S. Bach. Featured vocalists will be sopranos Marilyn Fillis, Beatrice Schonta, and Alice Woscinski alto Joan Hannauer, and tenor James Dunne. Paul E. Ondracek is program director for the concerts. De Paul's chamber musie series is open to the public without charge.
