By Sara Ellefson Editor-in-Chief The Student Government Association (SGA) has initiated the impeachment proceedings of their president Michael Elmudesi. Elmudesi was served with a letter of impeachment, the first step in the process, as it is outlined in the Constitution of the DePaul University Student Government Association. "We are impeaching him beeause he has not lived up to the guidelines of the constitution," said Amy Rassmussen, Senator for the Music School. According to Amber Miller, Director of Campus Life for Loop Campus, "The way the process goes is that he is served the letter, we have ten days, and then after that it is voted on at a full body meeting." By Paul Fine Copy Editor On Wednesday, the DePaul Political Science Association hosted a "Meet the Candidates" meeting in the Stuart Center pit from 2:00-6:30 p.m. Various guest speakers who are running for public office gave speeches and took questions addressed to them by DePaul students. Elias Zenkich (R), who is trying to unseat the veteran incumbent candidate Dan Rostenkowski in See See Inside Inside Evan Washington, SGA Member at Large, expressed her concern over the state of SGA and her support of the impeachment. "In my three years of being on Student Government, it has never been this bad," said Washington. "It is something that needs to be done," Washington said of the impeachment. James R. Doyle, Vice President of Student Affairs said of the impeachment, "We never like to see anything like this happen. We would not interfere with the process, we only hope that there is a resolution of the differences before formal action is taken." 0 Judge Ann Houser (R), running for the position of Cook County Judge of the 8th SubCircuit, shares her views with the DePaul Community. Local Candidates Speak the State House of Representatives, was the first to address the group. He stressed the need for less government spending and the need to better encourage American industry. "I want to reduce government spending by a minimum of thirty percent. We need to elect new people and get a new agenda," he said. I reject that and my candidacy is an absolute rejection of that," Perlee said. The revised faculty tenure and promotion criteria and procedures will clarify the standards applied in reviewing professors and will be included in the Faculty Handbook and the Manuel for Policies and Procedure for Faculty. "We've been in a situation of confusion for a long time," said Charles Strain, professor of religious studies and member of the proposal committee. think we've finally reached a point of consensus on what the criteria should be." ty and allows for many scholarly endeavors, not just traditional research. Patrick Callahan, professor of political science and member of the proposal committee, explained that some continued research is necessary to maintain a high teaching ability in the faculty. There has been concern, however, among some faculty that these reviews have focused on research more in the last several years. "The wording of the document strikes a resonable balance between teaching and scholarship. However, it requires the reviewing committee to use good judgement just publishing isn't enough," said Callahan. The faculty council put forth proposed changes to the criteria and procedures for tenure and promotions last year. Their proposal was followed up by a counterproposal from the Provost's office. The current proposal is a compromise between the two. "There was mostly disagreements on procedure," said Callahan.
