EN GARDE! THE VOLUME XXXIII—Number 20 Until .now there has been no means of granting such indulgences to students in Catholic colleges, except through the Sodality, which by the wise directive of the Holy Father has a more specially determined membership. Now, however, by virtue of the fact that each student on campus is a member of NFCCS, he is provided with the opportunity to gain Plenary Indulgences at least 20 times a year, and Partial Indulgences as often as desired. At the end of this article is a list of the feast days on which these Plenary Indulgences can be obtained. On these days each student on your campus may gain a Plenary Indulgence under the usual Church regulations, because he is a member of the National Federation of Catholic College Students. Let us briefly summarize for you the two most important aspects of this gift from the Holy Father to American Catholic youth. First, it is a gift of great spiritual value, a means of sanctifying ourselves and remitting temporal punishment due to sin. It is a spiritual gift that could be granted to Catholic college students as a whole only through the means of NFCCS. And second, this gift is most assuredly an acknowledgment of the intrinsic worth of NFCCS, an expression of gratitude for the part played by NFCCS in the work of the Church, as well as an encouragement for our progress in that work. Certainly, we should be proud of the fact that we are working for an organization that has been so honored. Members of the Council are eligible under the usual Church regulations to gain both Plenary and Partial Indulgences on spe- by any member who performs, with at least a contrite heart, an act of piety or charity directed to the aims of the Federation. A Plenary Indulgence has been granted for the day on which the member is enrolled in a college or the Federation and also on the following: January 20—St. Sebastian January 21—St. Agnes January 31—St. John Bosco February 27—St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother March 7—St. Thomas Aquinas March 19—St. Joseph March 22—St. Isidore April 23—St. George May 15—St. John Baptist de la Salle June 21—St. Aloysius (Continued on Page 4) Catholic College Students Gain Indulgences Through Recently Monsignor Joseph E. Schieder announced that the special indulgences has been granted to NFCCS.
