Lieutenant Joseph J. Edwards, U.S.N.R. Former Arts Dean Now At Virginia Naval Post Last Thursday, May 20, the Reverend Joseph J. Edwards, C.M., left the University to accept the commission of a lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserve. Father Edwards, who served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences from September of 1935 to March of this year, reported to William and Mary Col lege in Williamsburg, Virginia where he will undergo an indoctrination course before being assigned to active service. Father Edwards was ordained in September, 1924, at St. Mary's Seminary in Perryville. Missouri. The next year he spent at the Catholic University of America, and received a Master's Degree in 1925. He was then appointed prefect of St. Vincent's College, Cape Gidardeau, Missouri, and he taught Latin, Greek, English, and History there for the next four years. In 1929, Father Edwards was sent to Chicago and he served as Principal of DePaul Academy during the next six years. Then, in September of 1935, he was given the post of Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Uptown) and he held that job until two months ago. Chemist's Institute Honors Marge Dahm Margaret Dahm, student in the Department of Science, was awarded a medal by the American Institute of Chemists at their annual meeting last Saturday, May 15, at the Edge water Beach Hotel. She was chosen as the outstanding senior Chemistry major by the faculty of the Chemistry Department. Miss Dahm was given the medal "in recognition of leadership, excellence in scholarship, and character," by Mr. Gustav Egloff, President of the Institute, at a luncheon which was given at the hotel. Sympathy is extended to the family of Lieut. George Kennely, who has been killed in African service. George was a student in the College of Commerce before enlistment. DR. HARVEY WISH FETED BY STUDENTS Yesterday noon at a luncheon in the Top of the Town Restau rant, sixty students and faculty members paid grateful tribute to the teaching of Dr. Harvey Wish, Ph.D., head of the Commerce Political Science department. Dr. Wish will leave in June for Harvard University where he has been awarded a post-doctorate fellow ship. Rev. Comerford J. O'Malley, C.M., Commerce dean, and Professor Leo Shapiro lauded the scholarship and leadership of Dr. Wish, after which Kay Kula presented the students' gift, a briefcase. During the program David Davis, child prodigy violinist, played several selections. Bernard Baker served as toastmaster and general chairman. Announce Opening Dates, Courses in Law Summer Term Schedules for the Summer Session in the College of Law are now available for distribution and may be obtained at the 15th floor office. The single session will run from June 14 to September 10. Courses will be offered during the day and at night. Junior courses to be offered during the day include Equity II, by J. W. Curran Suretyship, by R. S. Bauer Bills and Notes, by H. D. Taft, and Property III, Conveyancing, by M. P. Rapacz. Code Reading, by J. J. Buckley Administrative Law, by M. P. (Cont, on page 8) Front and Center For the first time in the history of the School of Drama, Summer School courses will be held continuously from 11:00 a. m. to 3:00 p. m. Lake St. Liberal Arts students will register for summer school on June 1 and 2, between 10 a. m. and 3.30 p. m.
